LUCAS CHAUVEHEID
ACID LANDSCAPES
Exhibition : 26 January – 16 March, 2019
Opening reception : Saturday, January 26th, 2019
For his first solo exhibition at Galerie Virginie Louvet, Lucas Chauveheid presents a series of photographs transformed via his cell phone.
Whilst taking a few seconds to contemplate, one is led to a new discovery. The series Acid Landscapes offers us a new perspective by reusing altered images from our daily lives to travel to dreamlike places — to a nearby and yet unknown world.
Having worked extensively with both film and digital photography, a painterly use of shape and color has always been very present in the artist work.
The cell phone for Lucas Chauveheid is the result of a photographic snapshot; allowing him to capture and transform daily moments in mere seconds after having shot them. To transform a microcosm into an environment, to play with the visual boundary between these two worlds and blurring the vision we have of what surrounds us : the artist considers photography as the best medium to achieve this. The transformation is almost pictorial.
To make his photographs, Lucas Chauveheid first uses the “negative” effect that creates the essence of his work; a visual depth which instantly takes the original image out of context. The shapes still seem familiar to us but the context has changed and thus blurs our perception. The colors are then modified, accentuated, transformed — leaving the traveler lost in the Acid Landscapes.
Lucas Chauveheid was born in Paris, France in 1993. He lives and works in Malakoff.
